Time-signatures, mind-fuckingly catchy lyrics and hand-claps. Sadly, Colour are no longer a band, but today they are my MP3 of the day as they are the tits. If your a fan of pop and a fan of math rock then this band is what you’ve been waiting for. They had their debut and only album Anthology released a few months back on BSM that features pretty much everything they’ve done. So go out and buy the fucker.

New Zealand – Middle Earth in my eyes and also the home of psychedelic four-piece Surf City. They sound like they sound be from California – but they’re not…they’re from New Zealand. There vocal kinda sounds like MGMT, but they’re so much better than that borefest.

If your a fan of Surf or 60’s Garage rock, then listen to this song. Leicester band Sex Beet just released a 7″ on Dutch label A Fistful of Records titled ‘She Don’t Surf’. You’ll find this song ‘Scarecrow’ as the opening number on the 3 track E.P.

You may of seem them last week on Later…With Jools Holland, so today I have decided to make Wild Beasts my MP3 of the day. This track ‘Vigil For A Fuddy Duddy‘ is the opening track from last years debut ‘Limbo, Panto‘. Hayden’s falsetto vocal can only really be compared to that of Jeff Buckley.
This year saw the release of the band’s second album titled ‘Two Dancers’ out on Domino Records. Following on from Limbo, Panto it’s very much the same with the guitars singing in harmony with the vocal. If you go to Pitchfork.tv at the moment, you will find a session by the band on Juan’s Basement.

Speaking to a friend last night, he recommended a song by the band Slint. This track is off the soundtrack to the controversial 1995 Larry Clark film Kids (see wiki if you don’t know about it). The movie’s soundtrack was put together by Lou Barlow of Dinosaur Jr fame which also included tracks by Daniel Johnston and The Beastie Boys.
Slint were a post-rock band from the early ’90’s. This 7 minute track Good Morning Captain (from the band’s second release, 1991’s Spiderland) was once compared by the Guardian to Led Zeppelin’s Stairway To Heaven saying “the extraordinary Good Morning Captain is [Slint’s] Stairway to Heaven, if it’s possible to imagine Stairway to Heaven bleached of all bombast.” If your a fan of Godspeed You Black Emperor! or Mogwai, this is for you, as the album has been created by these band’s and other in the genre as an influence on their sound.
