Cover Of The Day No.4 – The Beatles ‘To Know Her Is To Love Her’

Today a track that was released over 50 years ago.

Written by the crazed but genius producer Phil Spector and preformed with his first vocal group The Teddy Bears, this version of To Know Her Is To Love Her is off of The Beatles Live At The BBC record. With George on lead vocals, the lad’s put together a beautiful take on the late 50’s heart-achingly hit.

Here is the original To Know Him Is To Love Him with vocalist of the Teddy Bears Annette Kleinbard on lead.

As the years went on and both Spector and The Beatles became archetypal in their fields, it would be John who would befriend Spector with the producer working on a number of his solo efforts after working together on The Beatles Let It Be Album.

Cover Of The Day no3. Vincent Gallo/PJ Harvey/ John Frusciante ‘Moon River’

A couple of years back (2004) Vincent Gallo toured promoting his incredible album When that was released on Warp Records nearly 10 years back in 2001. At the show (that you can find a good bootleg of) in London’s Royal Festival Hall he was joined on stage by good friends PJ Harvey and now ex Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante on stage for a rendition of Moon River.

Cover Of The Day No.2 – The Horrors ‘Who Can Say’

It’s The Horrors… kind of covering Jay And The Americans. These guys are fucking great. A 60’s male pop band with doo-wop aspects to them. One of their most popular song ‘She Cried’ is a beautifuly heart-wrenching take on a break-up with a loved one. Now, if you were a fan of the incredible second Horrors album Primary Colours or the single ‘Who Can Say’ you may recognize a lyric taken from the Jay And The Americans song. Also The Beautiful Shangri-Las record their own take on the song titled ‘He Cried’…. figures.
