Faris Badwan makes directorial debut with side project

He of The Horrors fame, gangly front-man Faris Badwan/Rotter (whatever) has jumped into the directors chair and made his music video debut with side project Lumina. Along with ex Ipso Facto keyboardist Chreish Kaya, the two have reworked the Black Lips song I’ll Be With You (it’s the b-side to the Black Lips last single Drugs) into a tune you would hear at Herman Munsters birthday party. How the man can find time is beyond me – having released one of (if) the best albums of the year and then touring profusely worldwide.

Over at a vbs.tv, the lovely people at Vice had the pleasure of being with Mr Badwan whilst he made his baby-steps in the moving image world and captured some footage that they are filming for a collaboration with Vodafone called Hereos. Featuring various artists such a La Roux, Simian Mobile Disco and Santigold, Hereos captures the everyday lives of the artists. Here’s a little clip of the footage profiling Badwan’s shoot;

Over at the actual Hereos website you will find videos of all the profiled artists and some other bits and bobs. Have a look.

Cover Of The Day No.2 – The Horrors ‘Who Can Say’

It’s The Horrors… kind of covering Jay And The Americans. These guys are fucking great. A 60’s male pop band with doo-wop aspects to them. One of their most popular song ‘She Cried’ is a beautifuly heart-wrenching take on a break-up with a loved one. Now, if you were a fan of the incredible second Horrors album Primary Colours or the single ‘Who Can Say’ you may recognize a lyric taken from the Jay And The Americans song. Also The Beautiful Shangri-Las record their own take on the song titled ‘He Cried’…. figures.
